about the book
Maeve Daugherty buried her mother on a wet Tuesday in October. She thought the worst was over. The envelope arrives twenty-two days later, postmarked the week her mother died, addressed in her mother’s handwriting.
Inside is a printed report, a folded note, and a name. The note says, in her mother’s tidy hand: *I am sorry. Please find her.* The name is not anyone Maeve has ever met. The DNA, according to the report, is a 49.6% match.
“Some letters arrive on time. Some arrive on purpose.”
